Suffering from sleeping problems is quite common these days, and I personally think that it might be just because of the fact that we are too stressed out. Normally you wake up early in the morning and head to work as fast as possible. Working long days like 10 hours is taxing on your body, and if you need to be concentrated on something during this whole time you are likely to have headaches, and dry eyes. This happens almost all of the people working at offices - they stare at their computers during the whole day and then get home and stare at their computers the whole night. When they are finished, they can't get sleep and think about buying sleep aids to help them with their problems.
Some very common sleep aids that are widely used usually contain melatonin. This is a hormone that is produced by a specific part of our brain that is in charge of making changes in our bodies according to the time of the day. If you did not already know it, our hormonal balances vary quite a lot depending on the time of the day, and the time of the cycle that your body is used to. Normally this is the day-night rhythm and you will get natural boosts in melatonin at night time when it is darkest. So if you decide to buy sleep aid you will be taking it at night when you want to go to sleep. The darkness affects our body because there are specific signals that are sent from our eyes to that specific part of our brain when there is light. This means that even if you try to get used to staying awake during the night, and sleeping the day, your body is never going to adapt to this. Usually people who are working the nights have serious problems with their sleeping and it has been said that working nights regularly during your whole life can take as much as ten years off your life.
Sleeping aids are a big factor in treating sleeping problems but they usually are not the solution but rather a treatment for the symptoms. Unlike most natural sleep aids, the traditional medication that is used are benzodiatsepines which bind to a receptor in your brain that makes you fall asleep. It works like GABA that actually inhibits signals from traversing in your brain, and for that reason it makes you fall asleep. Usually there is not a sensation of a good nights sleep involved in this, but people who use these sleeping pills normally feel tired during the whole day, and this is one of the most common side-effects. They don't make you perkier but instead they just allow you to sleep.
